FREMONT — Midland Lutheran College is cutting back salaries amid a recession that has made some students rethink their college plans.
The Fremont-based private liberal arts college says it will cut staff salaries by at least 2 percent and some as much as 7 percent.
The college also has asked its faculty to volunteer for similar salary reductions.
Interim President Stephen Fritz said it was a difficult decision to make, but it will protect the college from more drastic steps, including layoffs.
Fritz has volunteered to take a 7 percent cut.
The salary cuts will take effect in July. No one making under $30,000 a year will be affected. The plan also calls for those who make the most to undergo the steepest cuts. — AP
