License test days change at 3 sites

LINCOLN - The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles is changing its days of service for driver's license renewals and testing in Blair, Wahoo and Fremont.

Starting July 1, the new testing days will be:

Blair (Washington County) - 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday instead of the current Wednesday. There will be no testing on June 29 to allow the driver's testing station to be moved to a different part of the courthouse.

Wahoo (Saunders County) - 8 a.m. to noon and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Mondays will be for renewals only because not enough examiners will be available for driving tests. The current driver's license examination days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Fremont (Dodge County) - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Dodge County's current testing days are Monday, Thursday and Friday.

Beverly Neth, director of the Motor Vehicles Department, said the changes were prompted in part by the Washington County testing station's move to larger quarters in the courthouse. Coming changes in the way driver's licenses will be issued require more equipment and more space in the testing station, she said.

Washington County officials also requested a different testing day to reduce courthouse congestion on Wednesdays, when many court hearings are scheduled.

The change to the Washington County schedule also required changing schedules in Saunders and Dodge Counties because the same three driver's examiners serve all three counties, Neth said.

Thirteen driver's testing stations in Nebraska provide service five days a week. They are the five stations in Omaha, two in Lincoln and stations in Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, North Platte, Lexington and Scottsbluff.

Nebraskans who want to renew their driver's licenses on a day not scheduled for testing in their counties are permitted to travel to testing stations in other counties, Neth said.
