A baby boy is in state custody after a caller notified a child abuse hot line about a disturbing Craigslist ad.
The author of the ad wrote that she is a mother who is a drug addict and in need of someone to help her and her son.
The ad states: "he is adorable. . . . (He) deserves a mommy that is not addicted to Meth . . . unfortunately I am!"
"I am scared . . . I am desperate . . . can anyone help me . . . can anyone help (him)? PLEASE. . . BEFORE I do something CRAZY!"
The ad was posted at 9:35 a.m. Friday under the Omaha Craigslist "volunteers" section. Its subject listed "help my baby (omaha)."
Later Friday, the child was located in La Vista and placed in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
A judge will decide if the baby should stay in foster care, said Deputy Sarpy County Attorney Sandra Markley.
The mother, who is in her 20s, is under investigation by La Vista police. She could not be reached for comment. The baby is about a year and a half old.
The state's abuse and neglect hot line is 800-652-1999.
