Nebraskan sentenced for sex crimes

NORTON, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas judge has sentenced a southwest Nebraska man to nearly six years in Kansas prison for indecent acts with two young girls.

Gary Hartwell of McCook was sentenced last week to 5 years and 8 months in prison on two counts of felony aggravated indecent solicitation of a child. The charges relate to incidents with two different girls between 2006 and last October. Hartwell has been in custody since December.

Hartwell pleaded guilty to the two charges as part of a deal with prosecutors. Norton County Assistant County Attorney Karen Griffiths said Norton had been charged with four counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a minor.
