The laid-back, casual style of Southern Mississippi may be best reflected by their baggy britches.
Unlike the other squads playing in the College World Series, the Golden Eagles cherish their loose-fitting pants simply from a comfort standpoint.
“Comfort is the main thing,” sophomore pitcher Collin Cargill said. “You play good when you're comfortable.”
Unlike other squads that wear pants that look like they came straight from the tailor, like Louisiana State for example, Southern Miss' pants don't always fit like a glove.
“For some guys they're too short and for others they're too long,” Cargill explained. “Sometimes they fall underneath your cleats.”
The Russell-branded game pants, which come in solid white, grey and white with a single black pinstripe, are a good change of pace from what the Golden Eagles wear during practice sessions.
“We have tight practice pants,” junior infielder Joey Archer said. “We're thankful we don't have those.
