COUNCIL BLUFFS -- The body of a man found floating in the Missouri River on June 16 has been identified as Kevin Pearey, 20, of Council Bluffs.
Police said Pearey was last seen on June 6. An autopsy concluded that Pearey drowned.
Detective Ray Robinson said Pearey was reported missing by his family members on June 9. The investigation into his death is ongoing. Robinson said there was no indication of homicide or suicide, but he hasn't been able to completely rule out suicide at this time.
“I'm trying to talk to his friends and find out what happened the night he disappeared,” he said.
Identification of Pearey's body was made by the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny through a comparison of dental records, Robinson said.
The Council Bluffs Fire Department's water rescue team was dispatched on the afternoon of June 16. Assistant Fire Chief Matt Thomas has said walkers on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge spotted an object in the river. Pearey's body was recovered near Harrah's Council Bluffs Casino & Hotel.
