No job for deputy in assault case

NELSON, Neb. (AP) — The Nuckolls County sheriff’s deputy who had been accused of domestic assault is off the force.

Sheriff James Marr said Scott Stemper of Nelson is no longer a county employee but would not elaborate.

The 48-year-old Stemper was arrested last month following an investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.

According to court documents, Stemper’s wife told a patrol investigator on May 16 that her husband shoved her, held a knife above her throat and yelled at her.

But Stemper told the investigator that his wife took the knife from the drawer and was threatening to kill herself, so he took the knife from her. He denied pushing, grabbing or threatening his wife.

The prosecutor said there wasn’t enough evidence to try Scott Stemper.
