A winning bid of $1,680,300 earned a private lunch with Omaha investor Warren Buffett in a fundraiser for the Glide Foundation of San Francisco.
The six-day online auction featured 116 bids by 10 different bidders, starting at $25,000 on Sunday and escalating rapidly from $750,000 at 6:16 p.m. to the flurry of final bids near the 9 p.m. close, according to auction Web site eBay.
At 2 p.m. Friday, eBay officials said, a bid of $5,677,909 was cancelled because the bidder entered the wrong amount. At the time, the highest bid had been $550,000.
Last year's $2.1 million winning bid had set a charity auction record at eBay.
The winning bidder can invite seven friends to lunch with Buffett at the Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in New York City.
The Glide Foundation is affiliated with Glide Memorial Church of San Francisco, which helps thousands of needy people yearly -- serving meals, operating a medical clinic and providing job training and service programs.
