Dashboard Confessional will headline the Maha Music Festival on Aug. 29.

Music fest shaping up for August

Heads up, music fans.

You can add another summer music festival to your calendars — this time in Omaha.

A group of Omahans has gotten together to create a new event on the city’s riverfront. Dubbed the Maha Music Festival, the Aug. 29 concert will feature Dashboard Confessional, G. Love & Special Sauce, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Serena Ryder, Army Navy and The Appleseed Cast.

Taking place at the Lewis & Clark Landing on the Omaha riverfront, the concert will also feature three as-yet-unannounced local artists.

Tickets, $29.50, are already available for sale through ticketomaha.com. The concert will start at noon and concertgoers must be at least 12 years old.

Headliners Dashboard Confessional are the purveyors of emotional, deeply personal acoustic tunes. The 2001 song “Screaming Infidelities” garnered the group popularity and won them an award at MTV’s VMAs and the song “Vindicated” reached No. 2 on Billboard’s modern rock chart in 2004.

The group hasn’t released an album since 2007’s “The Shade of Poison Trees,” although one new song, “Even Now,” was recently posted on the group’s MySpace page.

The concert is being organized by nonprofit group YFC, Inc., and Omahans Mike App, Tyler Owen, Tre Brashear, Traci Hancock and Mike Toohey make up the group’s board and organizing committee.

The group wants the event to bring exposure to the city and help continue to brand Omaha as a hotspot for independent music. In the future, the group wants to build the festival into a multi-day, multi-venue event.

More information on the concert can be found at www.mahamusicfestival.com.
