Rockets' red glare

Besides “A Capitol Fourth,” televised live from the Mall on Saturday, other holiday-related programs include:

Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular (Saturday at 8 p.m. CDT on NBC): Live from New York, the celebration will include a fireworks display set off from six barges lined end to end on the Hudson River between 24th and 50th Streets. There will be more than 40,000 shells bursting over the city, at more than 1,500 per minute, the producers say.

Performers include singer-songwriters Rob Thomas and Jewel and the cast of Broadway's “West Side Story,” including Tony Award winner Karen Olivio, who plays Anita. Natalie Morales of “Today” and Tiki Barber of “Today” and “Football Night in America” will co-host.

Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular (Saturday at 9 p.m. CDT on CBS): Singer-songwriter Neil Diamond will perform with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, conducted by Keith Lockhart. Craig Ferguson of “The Late Late Show” will host the live event, including a fireworks finale, along the Charles River.
