KINGSTON, Jamaica — Nebraska sophomore long jumper Nicholas Gordon has put himself in position for a possible spot on the Jamaican national team for the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany.
On his final jump Sunday at the Jamaican National Trials, Gordon exploded with a personal-best leap of 26-7¼, surpassing the World Championships' “B” qualifying standard of 26-5. The jump also moved Gordon to No. 3 on the all-time Husker outdoor performance list. Gordon's jump took the lead at Sunday's meet, but he was then passed by Arkansas' Alain Bailey, who cleared a PR of 26-11¼, and Texas A&M's Julian Reed, who jumped 26-9.
By finishing in the top three and reaching the “B” standard, Gordon will find out later this week if the Jamaican National Team will select him to go to Berlin.
