Family fun

You know your family is big (like Kathy Pflug’s) when:

You rent a gymnasium for Christmas dinners.

You hold a wedding in a theater (like great-granddaughter Leah Leick Derry did).

You start a computer database to keep track of one another.

Your family size changes by the week. (Her 101st, 102nd and 103rd great-grandchildren were born last month. Four more kids are due soon.)

Your 81 grandchildren range from age 40 to 4. Great-grandchildren range from 20 years to, well, days old. And the first great-great-grandchild is on the way.

There are only five years between 1967 and 2005 when a grandchild was not born.

You train yourself to become ambidextrous (like No. 10 sibling Mark Pflug) so you can get the coveted “leftie” seat at the far end of the dinner table.

Your parents don’t give middle names because they’re afraid to run out. (OK, that might be a running joke of the Pflug kids, but it’s true that only one has a middle name.)
