PCL: Royals earn 12th shutout

Story line: Sidney Ponson pitched eight scoreless innings, and Victor Marte threw a perfect ninth to pick up his first save as Omaha earned its PCL-high 12th shutout win, 2-0 over Oklahoma City on Monday. Travis Metcalf went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Royals at the plate. His double in the eighth inning was the game's only extra-base hit.

Stars of the game: Ponson (1-1) allowed six hits, walked two and struck out three to lower his ERA from 3.50 to 2.42 during his rehab stint with Omaha.

Up next: The four-game series finishes today at 7:05 p.m. Royals right-hander Brandon Duckworth (2-2, 4.50 ERA) faces RedHawks righty Elizardo Ramirez (4-7, 4.56).
