PenFed expands into Papillion

Less than a year after ADT Security Services closed its operations in Papillion, the growing Sarpy County city has found another company to occupy the building.

Pentagon Federal Credit Union announced today that it is expanding its operations in Omaha's metropolitan area with the addition of a second customer-care center to handle mortgages and collections.

Pentagon Federal currently has about 285 employees at its accounting, data and call center at 132nd and Fort Streets in northwest Omaha.

"PenFed is a welcome addition to our rapidly growing community and economy," said Papillion's acting mayor, David Black.

Company spokesman Ben Scandlen said that Pentagon Federal expects to bring about 100 to 150 new jobs to Papillion in the former ADT building, which sits in a business and technology park near 72nd Street and Cornhusker Road.

Scandlen said his company hopes to increase its work force in Papillion to about 300 jobs within the next few years, if things go according to plan.

"We've made a conscious decision to increase our presence in the Omaha marketplace and further utilize its exceptional work force," said Frank Pollack, Pentagon Federal Credit Union president. "This new space positions us well for that future expansion."

Last November, Papillion suffered a blow when ADT announced plans to eliminate 380 jobs at its facility there as the company consolidated operations nationwide. The building has sat empty the past few months.

Since ADT left, Papillion officials and Sarpy County Economic Development Director Toby Churchill have tried to find another business anchor.

"We are excited about the opportunity to replace jobs in the community that we lost when ADT/Tyco moved their operations out of Papillion this spring," Churchill said today.

Pentagon Federal Credit Union serves more than 900,000 members in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Homeland Security Department, Defense Department, defense-related companies and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The company offers mortgages, credit cards, auto loans, personal loans, checking, money market savings and other financial accounts.
