Boater in crash posts bail

Bail was set at $25,000 this afternoon for a 30-year-old Waterloo, Neb., man charged with manslaughter in the boating-related death of a family friend.

Late Friday afternoon, jail officials said Todd J. Spangler had posted 10 percent, or $2,500, to be released from the Douglas County Correctional Center.

On June 21, Spangler was driving the boat pulling an inner tube that carried his wife and 30-year-old Jennifer Susan de Correa Finke-Dwyer of La Vista.

After the boat made a sharp turn, the two women were thrown off the inner tube and hit a dock, authorities have said. De Correa Finke-Dwyer later died of her injuries, while Spangler’s wife was critically injured.

If convicted, Spangler could face up to 20 years in prison and be fined up to $25,000.
