Cox Classic Notes: 18-year-old earns Hogan Award

Tadd Fujikawa is the first recipient of the Steve Hogan Award.

The Cox Classic instituted the honor this year to recognize the sponsor's exemption that exemplifies the nine core values —- honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment — that Hogan taught in his Hogan's Junior Golf Heroes program.

Hogan died last November and the Miller Park golf course, which he leased from the city, has been renamed in his memory.

Fujikawa, the 18-year-old Hawaiian who has played in four PGA Tour events in 2009, was honored at Sunday night's pro-am pairings party.

Friesen, Foltz to visit juniors

Golf Channel personality Jerry Foltz, Nationwide Tour rookie Steve Friesen of Lincoln and two other Nationwide golfers, Kevin Johnson and Vance Veazey, are scheduled to visit Steve Hogan Golf Course on Wednesday for the Hogan's Junior Golf Heroes.

The afternoon events include putting and chipping contests and a cookout. The Nationwide contingent will put on a skills demonstration at 5 p.m.

Colin Bishop, Chris Mangan and Peter McCann also teamed with Nationwide Tour pro Drew Laning to shoot 47 in the 26-team competition that endured a 45-minute lightning delay and then heavy rain.
