Firefighters graduate Wednesday

Twenty-eight recruits from two classes will graduate as Omaha firefighters Wednesday after completing a nine-week training course.

The graduates will bring the Omaha Fire Department force to 674 officers who are trained and on the streets, said Capt. Jim Gentile, a department spokesman. The department is budgeted for 679 firefighters.

The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. at the Public Safety Training Center, 11616 Rainwood Road. Mayor Jim Suttle, Fire Chief Michael F. McDonnell and the department's officers will conduct the graduation.

The graduates of the final 2008 class are Aaron Billerbeck, Sean Brenner, Jillian Burns (class speaker), Steve Conlin, Mark Feldman, Michael Greve, Eric Hallagan, Nicholas Lemek, David Manning, Jeff McGill, Kellie Rice, Justin Smith, Richard Smith and Michael Sorensen.

The graduates of the first 2009 class are Anthony Brummett, James Camenzind, Nicholas Edmundson, Eric Jeanneret, Stephen Luethge, Peter Luna, Matthew Mathouser, Ryan McShane, Michael O'Hanlon, Matthew Pape, Frederick Pfeffer, Phillip Smart, Geoffry Vlcek and Gregory Winbinger (class speaker).
