THE CHILDREN
Last fall, 27 parents and guardians left 36 children under Nebraska’s safe haven law.
Six children were returned to their home states, and one Omaha child was returned home immediately. The other children:
are making the transition home: 1
are with a new legal guardian: 2
ran away from foster care: 3
are in foster homes or facilities: 23
THE PARENTS
For children who are in foster care or have run from foster care, the parents and guardians who dropped off children:
remain involved: 9
relinquished rights or guardianship, or ignored court proceedings: 10
