Brady Schnell is in reasonable position to produce his first top-25 finish in a Nationwide Tour event, which gives nonexempt players a spot in the next tournament.
“If I can shoot 3 , 4 , 5 under par,'' he said. “I don't want to concentrate on it too much.''
Schnell is at 11 under after a 65 Saturday at Champions Run, a score that matched the day's low when there was a rare northwest breeze.
The Millard West graduate, who played college golf at Nebraska and received a Cox Classic sponsor's exemption this year, went 31 holes Friday and Saturday without a bogey. The streak ended when Schnell's worst shot of the third round, a pushed approach shot from the middle of the fairway, bounced off the cart path and landed in high grass right of the green. He missed a 7-footer for par.
“I left a few shots out there, missed a couple 7-footers for birdie,'' Schnell said. “I missed four or five putts and if you're shooting in the low 60s, you're making those.
“Obviously, I can't complain about the day.''
Friesen falls to tie for 47th
Steve Friesen birdied the 18th to end his round on a rare good note. The rest of the day was rough for the Nationwide Tour rookie from Lincoln. He shot a 74, with a double-bogey 5 on the 12th, to fall from a tie for 14th to a tie for 47th at 6 under. His only other birdie was on the 10th hole.
Miracle Hill golfer shoots 1-under 70
Jon Peterson of Miracle Hill had his third straight round under par, shooting 70 to also end up at 6 under. He's the second Nebraska PGA qualifier to survive the 36-hole cut.
Live coverage provided at course
The Golf Channel is showing the tournament's final two rounds on tape delay, but the course is getting the coverage live in the clubhouse, in the 19th Hole tent and in the skyboxes and suites.
A few times Saturday, the announcers' microphones were live during blackout periods in the feed in which ads would later be inserted. A couple of amusing remarks spilled out but nothing that would generate an FCC inquiry.
