Calvin Edward Robinson served the State of Nebraska as assistant attorney general and worked nearly 30 years in the insurance business. But late in his career and into retirement, his passion was the Douglas County Health Center Foundation.

Robinson died of cancer Friday at his Omaha home, said his wife, Sandra S. Robinson. He was 71.

Robinson, who was born in Denver and grew up in Broken Bow, Neb., had a short career as a teacher before earning a law degree from the University of Nebraska in 1964. He worked at an Omaha law firm for two years before taking the assistant attorney general post for eight years.

Robinson joined Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society as assistant general counsel in 1974 and retired in 2003 as vice president and associate general counsel.

In 1994, he became a director on the board of the Douglas County Health Center Foundation. He served as the board’s president from 2001 until last September, when health problems forced him to retire, his wife said. She said her husband’s voice changed whenever he spoke about the foundation and its work.

“It was very close to his heart,” she said.

Additional survivors include a son, Edward L. “Ted” Robinson of New Berlin, Wis.; daughter, Amy L. Robinson of Jersey City, N.J.; two grandsons; and a brother, Charles L. “C.L.” Robinson of Omaha.

A celebration of life service is being planned for this fall, Sandra Robinson said.
