Golf: Going left right way for ace

No, it wasn't really an exorcist moment.

It just felt like it to longtime golfer Bob Scott when he recently sank his first hole in one at Bent Tree Golf Club in Council Bluffs.

“My head spun around in all directions,'' he said. “I couldn't believe it went in.''

Scott, who is retired from Union Pacific, sank his ace on the 116-yard No. 18 with a 9 iron. He wasn't expecting anything miraculous, he said, because he usually doesn't hit the ball very close to the pin on that hole.

The wind was blowing, so Scott said he hit the ball a little to the left.

“It hopped once, about five feet from the hole, and rolled real nicely in,'' he said.

The 62-year-old, who has a 16 handicap, jumped up and down and said he did a good imitation of a Tiger Woods fist pump. His wife, Nancy, was his witness.

Although a member at Bent Tree, he likes to try different courses and golfs five or six times a week. After 25 years on the links, he feels fortunate to finally get an ace.

“Everybody says: When are you going to get another one? I'm thirsty.''
