The Omaha World-Herald Co. has added two members to its board of directors.
At a meeting Friday, the board voted to add to its membership Douglas Hiemstra, vice president of operations, and Scott Searl, vice president and general counsel.
Hiemstra joined the company in 1999 as the chief financial officer for its community newspaper group. Searl has been general counsel for The World-Herald since joining the company in 2000.
The board is now made up of five employees and four non-employees.
In addition to Hiemstra and Searl, the employee members are Terry Kroeger, president and chief executive officer; Duane Polodna, senior vice president and chief financial officer; and Larry King, vice president of news and content.
Nonemployee board members are Omaha attorney Paul Jessen; Phoenix attorney Michael Gallagher; William Kernen, retired chief financial officer; and John Gottschalk, former president and chief executive officer.
Gottschalk, who stepped aside as president and newspaper publisher on Jan. 1, 2008, is ending his 34-year employment with the company on Aug. 1. He will remain the board's chairman.
