Plane lost power before Neb. crash

VERDEL, Neb. (AP) — Government investigators said a plane that crashed in northwest Nebraska earlier this month lost power before the crash.

In its preliminary report on the July 18 crash, the National Transportation Safety Board also said pilot Richard Nielsen was licensed only for single-engine planes, not the multi-engine Beech TC-45J he was flying.

Nielsen was injured in the crash near Verdel. His passenger, Dan Johnson from Lynch, Neb., was killed.

Investigators have not determined what caused the plane to lose power.
