In the City Charter, the Omaha planning director has one of the more narrow job experience requirements.
Planning director: Five years of experience in a “city planning post.”
Finance director: Five years of experience in a “public or private financial post.” Finance Director Pam Spaccarotella, the only other department head that Mayor Jim Suttle has appointed, was associate vice president/divisional controller for Werner Enterprises since 2003 and has held other corporate positions including president and CEO, senior director of taxation and controller.
Human resources director: Five years of experience in a “post in the public or private personnel field.”
Public works director: Five years of experience in a “public works or engineering post.”
Human rights and relations director: Five years of “successful, paid professional experience in the field of intergroup relations.”
Parks, recreation and public property director: Five years of experience in “a post having to do with programs and facilities in the parks and recreation or civic or educational fields.”
