More end-of-the-year movies to look forward to:

Oct. 2

“A Serious Man” (limited release): A dark comedy directed by the Coen brothers, the minds behind “Fargo,” “The Big Lebowski,” “No Country For Old Men” and “Burn After Reading.”

“Shutter Island”: The latest from director Martin Scorsese, partnered again with his modern-day muse, Leonardo DiCaprio, in what looks to be a potent psychological horror film.

Oct. 9

“The Informant”: A comedy about a corporate whistle blower, directed by Steven Soderbergh (“Oceans 11,” 12 and 13, “Erin Brokovich”) and starring Matt Damon.

Oct. 16

“Where the Wild Things Are”: Based on Maurice Sendak's children's book, the film looks at an imaginary world of friendly monsters through the eyes of hero Max. Directed by the always unconventional Spike Jonze (“Being John Malkovich”).

“The Road”: Film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a father and son in a post-apocalyptic world, starring Viggo Mortensen and directed by John Hillcoat (“The Proposition”).

Nov. 25

“The Princess and the Frog”: Disney's long-awaited return to traditional animation also features the first black Disney princess, Tiana. Starring the voices of Anika Noni Rose, Oprah Winfrey and Terrence Howard.

“Ninja Assassin”: Latest from producers the Wachowski Brothers (“The Matrix”) and director James McTeigue (“V for Vendetta”) follows a ninja fighting members of his former clan. Starring Korean phenom Rain and Naomie Harris.

“Nine”: Director Rob Marshall (“Chicago”) returns to form with this musical based on Frederico Fellini's classic “8˝,” starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Marion Cotillard and Sophia Loren.

Dec. 11

“The Lovely Bones”: The return of Peter Jackson (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy) to the director's chair is an adaptation of the novel by Alice Sebold in which a murdered girl watches from heaven the lives of her family and killer.
