“There’s No Place Like Home” was the theme of the fifth annual Heartland Family Service Strike a Chord fundraiser for children and families in southwest Iowa.
The event was Friday evening at Harrah’s Convention Center and included dueling pianos, a celebrity art auction, live and silent auctions, and a raffle. Doug and Deb Goodman of Council Bluffs served as host couple.
An enticing variety of regional favorite food and drinks from across America was served.
Local “celebrity artists” created works of art that were judged and auctioned. These artists were local real estate agents who adorned wooden birdhouses made by Jim Braegelmann.
Paula Danker won the People’s Choice Award with her birdhouse titled “The Lake House.” Other artists included John Edwards, Jason James, Theresa Martin and Deb Powell.
Dave Wingert was the event emcee. Wingert and Camille Metoyer Moten entertained the group with “Popular” and “For Good” from the Broadway musical “Wicked.” They were accompanied by pianist Dave Murphy.
Strike A Chord 5 was hosted by the agency’s Southwest Iowa Advisory Committee, including Don Andersen, Marcia Antworth, Suzi Brehmer, Alice Edwards, Jody Edwards, Lisa Gronstal, Carl Heinrich, Ted Hoff, Cindy Hoover, Rick Killion, Kelley Kulesa, Lydia Mason, Joanie Tekippe and Barb Walsh. Nancy Schulze is the Heartland Family Service vice president of Iowa professional services.
