ACI Worldwide lost $3.56 million in the second quarter, a sharp drop from its $828,000 in profits in the April-June quarter of 2008.

The financial software company, which has major operations in Omaha, reported Thursday that revenue fell $22.05 million in the quarter that ended June 30, coming in at $87.17 million.

The drop was largely due to $15 million in initial software license and service fees from new programs in the 2008 quarter, according to the earnings report. This year’s revenue also suffered a $4 million negative impact in foreign exchange rates.

Per share, the loss was 10 cents, compared with a 2-cent profit in 2008.

The company pointed to operating free cash flow of $13.6 million, recurring revenue growth of $1.5 million and cuts in operating expenses of $17.55 million as quarterly highlights.

Financial guidance released in February remained unchanged: revenue of $415 million to $425 million and operating income of $35 million to $40 million for the full year.

For the first six months of the year, the company lost $7.69 million, or 22 cents a share, on revenue of $175.38 million.

ACI’s share price hit a 52-week high of $20.98 Aug. 11 and a low of $8.92 Oct. 27.
