Omaha work force cuts

A total of 155 city employees will be laid off as part of cuts to this year's Omaha budget. The layoffs are part of an effort to make up an estimated $12 million shortfall in the 2009 budget.

Layoffs by city department:

Parks, Recreation and Public Property

Likely impact: “Dramatic” reduction in the mowing and maintenance of city parks through the end of this season, as well as slower snow removal on trails.

Omaha Public Library

Likely impact: Library closings and reduced hours for libraries that stay open.

Fire and Rescue (civilian employees)

5 contracted employees, 4 full-time
