Position: Tight end
Height, weight: 6-3, 250
Class: Sophomore
Hometown: Arvada, Colo.
Notable: It turned out that Hill, who played in all 13 games last season, made his final catch of the year against Baylor Oct. 25. But it was memorable. Hill’s 6-yard touchdown grab gave Nebraska an early 7-0 lead.
Q: You’re working with a lot of talented guys at tight end. Do you try to find a niche in this unit?
A: No, you have to do everything well. If you’re going to get out there and play, you have to know what you’re doing all the time. With all the guys that are around, it’s a really big competition. It’s going to be fun, trying to compete with these guys for a starting spot.
Q: Do you have fun watching those other guys at tight end making plays?
A: Oh, yeah. You learn a lot from watching, too. When you’re sitting back and you’re watching, you get the mental aspect. You get to see some guys like Kyler (Reed) and Mike (McNeill) who are really good at their jukes and motioning off the ball. You learn from other guys. You can take some of their things and make you a better player.
Q: You work with several different quarterbacks. Do you ever develop a special relationship with one guy, or do you try to avoid that?
A: I wouldn’t say that happens. We’re around each other, pretty much it feels like 24/7. We’re all becoming a family now, and that just makes it more special, being able to play with other guys. I wouldn’t favor anybody.
Q: Even on the field? Nobody gives you a better ball?
A: No. I just go out, whoever’s quarterback, you’ve just got to be able to play with whoever’s out on the field and do your best.
Q: Being a Colorado guy, what happens if Alex Henery misses that 57-yard kick against the Buffaloes last year? Could you have gone home?
A: He wouldn’t have missed that kick. That’s all I’ve got to say about that.
Q: So did you at least walk around with your head held high then, since you and the Huskers did win that game?
A: My uncle played for the CU Buffs, so it was kind of a little bit of a fun thing to mess around with. Then, a bunch of people from high school, a lot of the coaches like CU.
Q: Your position coach, Ron Brown — have you ever heard him whisper?
A: No. There is no whispering with coach Brown. He is intense when he walks onto the field, until he walks off the field. He’s even intense in meetings.
Q: Do you like that?
A: It makes you work harder, just knowing that he’s not yelling at you. It’s more coaching. He’s just trying to get you to do the right thing.
