    Will Henry

Football: Catching up with Will Henry

    Position: Wide receiver

    Height, weight: 6-5, 215

    Class: Junior

    Hometown: El Paso, Texas

Notable: Few Nebraska wide receivers have been taller than Henry. Wilson Thomas, an Omaha North graduate who played from 1999 through 2002, was 6-foot-6. Henry hasn't caught a pass since joining the Huskers in 2006. He played in two games as a redshirt freshman and nine games last year.

Q: You're listed at 6-foot-5 on the team roster. Is that accurate?

    A: Close. It's a little short. I'm about 6-6.

Q: As a receiver, does that handicap you in any way?

A: I don't think so. It's more of a benefit than anything. I guess some people can think that it's hard to move laterally when you've got such long legs and stuff, but with all the drills we do, I get an opportunity to work on that. It hasn't been a hindrance at all. It's more of a benefit than anything.

Q: Have you ever been matched up with cornerback Alfonzo Dennard in drills?

A: Yeah, I've gone up against him one-on-one plenty of times.

Q: Dennard is listed at 5-10 and 190 pounds. Are small defensive backs such as Dennard annoying to face?

A: The thing that could annoy me a little is just because they're so low, they're a little bit quicker at times. That can get on your nerves. When it comes to jump balls, (Dennard) is actually one of the guys who has a really good vertical. But being this tall does have its advantages.

Q: Dennard's vertical jump is in the 40-inch range. Do you outjump him?

A: Yeah, I can outjump him. I'm not going to say my vertical jump's higher than his, but with the height that I have, I'll outjump him.

Q: Assistant coach Ted Gilmore has said that he would like to see six or seven receivers emerge by the end of the week. Do you feel as if you're one of those guys?

A: I do feel like I'm one of those guys. I definitely think that all of our receivers have proven over camp that we can go out there and dominate. It's just that we have to learn how to be consistent. Just like Niles (Paul) is going out there and dominating every day, we've all got to be able to do that. And with as much talent as we have out there, I really have to go out and be consistent. That's what we all have to do, so we can establish our playing time. But I definitely feel like I'm in that (top six).

Q: You grew up in El Paso, Texas. What was the best thing about it?

A: The people there are real cool, but I think everyone here in Lincoln is a lot nicer. I don't know if that's just because I'm a football player or not, but everyone here is friendly. But I like the weather there, and I like the atmosphere with football down there in El Paso.
