How it breaks down

The City of Omaha collects about one-fifth of an Omaha homeowner’s total property tax bill. Schools get the biggest share. The total bill depends on how other local governments set their tax rates.

Ÿ A new learning community tax takes effect this year. Property owners in Douglas and Sarpy Counties will pay about $5 on a $100,000 house next year, or a half-cent per $100 of assessed valuation. The money will pay for the construction of learning centers and focus schools.

Ÿ The Omaha school board has proposed raising the school district levy by 2 cents this year, from $1.20 to $1.22. That would equate to $20 more on a $100,000 home next year.
