ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Wayne State College opened play Friday with two wins at the St. Cloud State volleyball tournament, defeating Missouri S&T 25-19, 25-21, 18-25, 25-16 and Upper Iowa 28-26, 25-18 and 25-10.
In the win over Missouri S&T, junior middle hitter Jennifer Hefner and sophomore outside hitter Tali Fredrickson each recorded double-doubles to lead the Wildcats. Hefner accounted for 16 kills and 10 blocks while Fredrickson finished with 12 kills and 10 digs.
The Wildcats (4-2) hit a season-high .418 in rolling past Upper Iowa. Junior Lea Hartigan had a match-high 17 kills and hit .464 followed by Fredrickson with 14 kills. Mindy Moody led the Wildcats on defense with 11 digs while Artz was credited with 39 set assists.
