    Tracking the offense

    NU star

Talk about improvement. Curenski Gilleylen, whose redshirt freshman year was marred by drops, caught four passes for 92 yards. And his open field block helped Menelik Holt turn a short pass play into a touchdown.

    Highlight

Junior I-back Roy Helu avoided a tackle attempt in the backfield, reversed his field, broke another tackle and ran 44 yards for a touchdown. That score gave Nebraska a 35-3 lead with 7:26 left in the third quarter.

    Busted play

This one was on Zac Lee. Midway through the third quarter, the junior quarterback appeared to have an open Gilleylen streaking downfield, but Lee's pass was underthrown and intercepted.

    Our take

It certainly wasn't flashy, the way the Huskers piled up points Saturday. There were drops. There were penalties. There were missed blocking assignments. But every once in awhile, the Huskers showed glimpses of potential dominance. I-back Roy Helu got going in the second half, the receivers made plays and Lee was efficient. But what captivated the NU fans came late. The future was on display as freshmen Cody Green and Rex Burkhead both turned in nice debuts.
