Trinity Seminary and Dana College alumni and friends are invited to celebrate the heritage of Blair’s Dana College at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Argo Cemetery in southwest Burt County, Neb. Families of Wayne (Neb.) State College students have been invited to spend Saturday at the college to learn more about their loved one’s life. Family Day activities will include open houses at all of the academic buildings and residence halls, a special tour of the Fred G. Dale Planetarium, brunch and a tailgate party before the football game between the Wildcats and St. Cloud State College.

The traditional sounds of Ireland will be featured when the New Barleycorn takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday for the Irish Heritage Concert Series at the College of Saint Mary. The outdoor concert will be on the CSM Plaza. Tickets are $20. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Metropolitan Community College will present a Writing Center reading series from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the South Omaha Campus Connector Building in the commons area near the main entrance. Some of Nebraska’s premier writers will discuss all aspects of writing and publishing and take questions.

Artwork created by College of St. Mary alums, faculty, staff, students and friends will be on display in the Hillmer Art Gallery through Sept. 30. The show will open with a 6:30 to 8 reception tonight and a violin recital featuring Melissa Pruss at 7:30 in the Gross Conference Center. The reception is free. Tickets for the recital are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The inaugural event in a lecture series devoted to Catholic thought and its influence upon society will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Gross Conference Center at the College of St. Mary. Guest speaker will be Sister Deirdre Mullan, who serves on the Executive Committee of the United Nations. Her presentation will be “The Call to be a Global Citizen: The U.N. and Catholic Social Teaching as Agents of Change.”

The Chadron (Neb.) State College Child Development Center dedicated its Nature Explore Outdoor Learning Environment during a ceremony Thursday. The facility is the fifth certified Nature Explore classroom in Nebraska and the 24th in the nation.

Visitors will be able to touch a moon rock Tuesday and Wednesday at NASA’s “Driven to Explore” exhibit at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The UNL College of Engineering will host the traveling exhibit from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days in Memorial Plaza, 15th and S Streets on the north side of the Nebraska Union.

Jan Beatty — a recognized poet, performer and director of the creative writing program at Carlow University in Pittsburgh — will read from her works at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 as part of the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Reynolds Series. The presentation will be in the Experimental Theatre. An autograph session and reception will follow.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has made available to nursing mothers dozens of lactation rooms on campus. The hope is that a mother is always within a five- to 10-minute walk of one. Ultimately, there will be 14 semi-private and 38 private lactation rooms.

“Recent Work,” an exhibit featuring mixed media by Ashland, Neb., artist Thomas Majeski, will be open through Sept. 25 in the new Peru (Neb.) State College Art Gallery. Majeski, a retired University of Nebraska at Omaha professor of art, will give a gallery talk at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
