    Halftime thoughts: Blaine who?

Random thoughts at halftime while waiting to jump in the popcorn line:

    1. Blaine who? Zac Lee looks very good. He has total command of what Shawn Watson wants. He's very assertive, doesn't hesitate. He zips the ball like no Nebraska quarterback in a long, long time (I'm thinking pre-Tommie Frazier). He has nice touch. He runs the ball effectively, too. If he's flushed out of the pocket, he can get yards. He looked good last week. Totally different level this week. And he'll need to up that ante again at Va. Tech.

    2. Greg Sharpe, the voice of the Huskers, just came by and said, "Stop stirring the pot on Cody Green.'' Amen, brother. Forget the quarterback controversy. Not going to be one. Cody Green may be the future but Zac Lee is the present and he's not going away. We'll see how he does in the big games. I have no reason to think he won't do well.

    3. The thing I like about Roy Helu is he always gets positive yards. If he's stopped, he'll still cut toward a hole, juke and make the guy miss, fall forward, anything. He gets something every carry. That's value.

    4. Clock management toward the end of the first half was not good. NU had two time outs and let at least 15 seconds roll off the clock before calling time out.

    5. Barry Turner is not the same guy, not even close. He's hesitant, lost a step. Too bad.

    6. Man, Colorado was really, really bad. That team lacks speed and is poorly coached. I mean, their strength should have been running Scott behind that big offensive line against a Toledo team that can't stop the run. But what did Cody Hawkins have, 55 pass attempts? Why? Even if you're down 21, you still have three quarters left to come back on the ground and you're keeping their offensive off the field! Dan Hawkins looked like fired coach walking all night. No fire, no nothing. That will be interesting these season. Cash-strapped CU can't afford to fire him, but they can't afford to keep him, either.

    7. Let's sneak this in under the wire (and I would have done this no matter what the Steelers did on Thursday night): Steelers-Eagles in the Super Bowl, with Philly winning.
