Crash kills 1, injures at least 2

A 20-year-old Mead, Neb., woman died at the scene of a four-vehicle crash on West Center Road west of Omaha on Friday evening.

The impact of the crash hurled Nancy Wallen, 20, from the pickup she was driving and broke the truck in half.

At least two other people suffered minor injuries and were treated at local hospitals.

According to Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Trinity Jones:

Wallen was driving a Chevrolet pickup west on Center through the rolling hills between Skyline Road and 204th Street about 6:30 p.m. when she veered into the eastbound lane.

"The white pickup was almost completely in the opposite lane at the time of the collision," Jones said.

The truck clipped an eastbound compact as that car swerved onto the shoulder. Then the truck slammed head-on into an eastbound Chevrolet pickup. An eastbound Volkswagen Beetle then collided with the Chevy.

Investigators could not immediately determine if Wallen was wearing her seat belt.

Authorities closed West Center Road as they investigated. The crash was unrelated to the storms that passed over Omaha early Friday evening; conditions were dry at the time.
