School budgets in brief

DOUGLAS COUNTY WEST SCHOOL DISTRICT

Total budget: $10.5 million, down 0.64 percent.

General fund: $8.7 million, up 7.63 percent.

Proposed tax rate: $1.1163 per $100 of assessed valuation, down from $1.1311.

Major expenditures: Aimed at maintaining small class sizes throughout the district.

Public hearing and vote: Monday

Note: 96 cents of the tax rate is for the new learning community serving Douglas and Sarpy Counties. The money will be redistributed to the 11 districts based on a formula that considers each district’s enrollment and demographics. Separately, the learning community will collect an additional half-cent levy for capital projects.

CITY OF SPRINGFIELD

Total budget: $2,269,872, up 5.6 percent

Operating budget: $1,214,785, up 27.7 percent

Proposed tax rate: 82 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, up from 79 cents

Major expenditures: $564,382 for Springfield Trail Phase 3 (trail project also supported by grants from the Nebraska Roads Department and the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District totaling $507,944); $100,000 for street paving project; $10,000 for mainstreet design plan

Public hearing and vote: Tuesday
