1. Texas (2-0)
Last week: Beat Wyoming 41-10. Up next: Texas Tech, 7 p.m., ABC. Last year’s loss to Tech cost the Longhorns a shot at the national title. Trust me, that hasn’t been forgotten.
2. Oklahoma State (1-1)
Last week: Lost to Houston 45-35. Up next: Rice, 6 p.m. The Cowboys have blown a major opportunity, but all is not lost. Houston may end up with 10 or 11 wins. And OSU hopefully has learned a huge lesson.
3. Oklahoma (1-1).
Last week: Beat Idaho State 64-0. Up next: Tulsa, 2:30 p.m., FSN. The Sooners are biding their time waiting for the offensive line to get settled and for QB Sam Bradford to get healthy.
4. Nebraska (2-0)
Last week: Beat Arkansas State 38-9. Up next: at Virginia Tech, 2:30 p.m., ABC. It’s the Huskers’ turn at the top of the Big 12 North merry-go-round. A win this week would cement their position.
5. Kansas (2-0)
Last week: Beat UTEP 34-7. Up next: Duke, 11 a.m., Versus. This would make for a great basketball matchup. In football, not so much, considering the Dookies already have a I-AA loss this season.
6. Baylor (1-0)
Last week: Idle. Up next: Connecticut, 4 p.m. Baylor gets a break. Connecticut’s starting quarterback suffered a knee injury last week and already has been declared out for Saturday.
7. Missouri (2-0)
Last week: Beat Bowling Green 27-20. Up next: Furman, 1 p.m., PPV. The video room is getting a workout as coaches try to figure out why Missouri got pushed around at the line of scrimmage for three quarters.
8. Texas Tech (2-0)
Last week: Beat Rice 55-10. Up next: at Texas, 7 p.m., ABC. Mike Leach’s four previous trips to Texas have resulted in losses of 59-43, 52-17, 43-40 and 42-7.
9. Texas A&M (1-0)
Last week: Idle. Up next: Utah State, 6 p.m. With Utah State and UAB coming up, the Aggies should be 3-0 going into a game with Arkansas in Cowboys Stadium.
10. Iowa State (1-1)
Last week: Lost to Iowa 35-3. Up next: at Kent State, 6 p.m. Paul Rhoads put on his Jim Walden mask and tried an onside kick after taking a 3-0 lead over Iowa. Bad idea. Worse result.
11. Kansas State (1-1)
Last week: Lost to UL-Lafayette 17-15. Up next: at UCLA, 9:15 p.m., FSN. It’s a good thing TB Daniel Thomas got eligible this summer. He is the Wildcats’ sole source of offense through two games.
12. Colorado (0-2)
Last week: Lost to Toledo 54-38. Up next: Wyoming, 2:30 p.m., FCS. It will be interesting to see how many people out of the most fair-weather fan base in the Big 12 will show up after two horrid losses.
