Western Nebraskans have two new opportunities Sunday to meet with Sen. Ben Nelson about health care.

Public meetings will be held in McCook and Scottsbluff. A live video feed will transmit the Scottsbluff meeting to satellite locations in Alliance and Sidney.

Nelson, a Democrat, said the meetings are valuable in clearing up misinformation about health care and answering questions from the concerned public. He said the new hearings, in addition to six already held, will provide views he will include in Capitol Hill debate this fall.

“These hearings also enable me to answer Nebraskans' questions and let people hear directly from me what my position is on an issue that affects all Americans,” Nelson said.

Nelson held similar meetings in Omaha, Lincoln, North Platte, Kearney, Norfolk and South Sioux City during August.

These meetings attracted Nebraskans with a wide variety of opinions about what to do about health care, said Jake Thompson, a Nelson spokesman.

“There were a lot of strong views and clearly expressed opinions,'' Thompson said. “Some were supportive of some kind of Obama administration plan. Some were opposed. We expect similar opinions in McCook and Scottsbluff.''

Thompson said Nelson hopes people take advantage of the opportunity to ask questions and hear his opinions on the issue.

Nelson is fond of saying he can't support anything until he sees everything in proposed health care legislation.

Sunday's schedule:

Ÿ McCook, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., CDT, McCook Heritage Senior Center, 1400 W. Fifth St.

Ÿ Scottsbluff, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., MDT, Western Nebraska Community College, Harms Advanced Technology Center, 2620 College Park.

The Sidney satellite-viewing location of the Scottsbluff meeting will be in Room 123 at the Western Nebraska Community College campus, 371 College Drive.

The Alliance satellite-viewing site will be in Room 122 at the Western Nebraska Community College campus, 1750 Sweetwater Ave.
