NU Star
Nebraska planned to play plenty of nickel defense Saturday, and the team's nickel back, Eric Hagg, took advantage of his opportunity. Hagg set the tone early by making a key open field tackle and forcing a punt. The junior had six total tackles.

Highlight
Larry Asante intercepted a pass from ULL quarterback Chris Masson and then returned it 74 yards for a touchdown, giving Nebraska a 34-0 lead midway through the second quarter. But bad news after the play: The senior safety was helped off the field with an injury.

Busted Play
Nebraska probably won't complain about the result, although it could have been better. Redshirt freshman Sean Fisher picked up a fumbled football in the third, but P.J. Smith tripped him up from behind. Fisher, who returned it 21 yards, seemed to have a clear path to the end zone.

Our Take
The NU defense wasn't impenetrable Saturday. The Huskers gave up 102 yards on the ground and 120 through the air. But they were stingy when they needed to be, never allowing ULL a legitimate chance at the end zone. Field position helped a lot. The Ragin' Cajuns didn't start a drive beyond their own 20-yard line until 4:48 remained in the third quarter. — Jon Nyatawa
