He's just a kicker, but don't tell Adi Kunalic he can't take a hit.
The junior Nebraska kickoff specialist went down hard to the turf on Sept. 12 after a kick during the Huskers' 38-9 win over Arkansas State. He was on the receiving end of an apparently vicious head-butt from one of the Red Wolves.
“The play was over,” Kunalic said. “As I was turning around to go get my tee, some guy came up and head-butted me. I just fell on the ground.”
Kunalic said he was stunned. No penalty was called.
“It was really, honestly, the biggest cheap shot ever,” Kunalic said. “The play was over. It had been over for, like, four or five seconds.”
An undisclosed Arkansas State player is believed to have served a one-game suspension last week against Troy for the hit.
An ASU spokesman said he was unaware of the hit. Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Wright Waters said the league follows a policy to withhold comment on the specifics of a suspension.
