Texas Tech may not name its starting quarterback for Saturday's game against Nebraska until, well, game time. That shouldn't affect the Huskers' plan, though.
Coach Bo Pelini said Monday after practice that both Red Raider signal callers are talented players within that pass-oriented scheme.
Starting quarterback Taylor Potts missed Saturday's game because of a concussion, but backup Steven Sheffield had 490 passing yards and seven touchdowns, leading Texas Tech to a 66-14 win against Kansas State. Sheffield was named the Big 12's offensive player of the week.
“They're both good football players,” Pelini said. “They both run their system well. And they're both playing at a high level.”
But don't get any ideas that Nebraska might be entering Saturday's game with a bit of an advantage, considering the Huskers just finished successfully defending Missouri's spread attack.
The Tiger and Red Raider offenses aren't similar, Pelini said.
“It's a much different offense ... in a lot of different ways,” he said of Texas Tech. “Different running plays, different pass plays. It's much different.”
Nebraska began its on-field preparation with an indoor practice today at the Hawks Center. Pelini had good things to say about the session.
“(I) thought it was good tempo,” he said. I thought they practiced well. Good start to the week.”
