Rollergirls 101

Omaha Rollergirls formed in 2006 and were accepted last November into the Women's Flat Track Derby Association, which has 78 leagues in the U.S. and Canada. There are about 400 roller derby leagues worldwide. The Omaha league plays in the North Central Division and is ranked No. 15.

Saturday will be the Omaha Rollergirls' last bout for the 2009 season at Skatedaze near 132nd and B Streets. Action starts at 7:30 p.m. A raffle will be held for a fellow roller derby player who recently died when a car struck her. Information: omaharollergirls.com.

The Omaha Rollergirls will host an Oct. 19 meet-and-greet for fans and those interested in joining. It will be from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Skatedaze. Skaters have to be at least age 19 to join the league, which practices three times a week and plays a couple of times a month.
