Russ Campion, who married his sweetheart at the Nebraska Medical Center in September as he was being treated for terminal cancer, has died, according to the CaringBridge Web page his family maintained for him.
He was 62-years-old.
Campion, a retired real estate developer, was diagnosed with appendix cancer in December 2005 and over four years battled through numerous surgeries and three rounds of chemotherapy. The cancer spread to his bones, spine and other organs.
On Sept. 25, Campion and Jan Schroeder, an eighth-grade literature and study skills teacher at Omaha's Bryan Middle School, wed in his hospital room. A more formal ceremony followed the next day in the hospital chapel.
A few days after the wedding, Campion was taken back to his native Colorado. On Monday, he died with loved ones at his side, according to a Tuesday posting.
