EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Creighton men’s soccer team’s offensive woes continued Saturday as the Bluejays played Evansville to a 1-1 tie.
Freshman Dion Acoff scored in the 25th minute to give Creighton (5-3-3, 3-2-2 Missouri Valley) an early lead, but Evansville answered in the 37th minute.
Acoff earned his first career goal off a crossing pass from Chris Schuler. Ethan Finlay was also credited with an assist on the score.
Evansville answered at 36:25 when Dan Gibson put in his own rebound after a saved penalty kick. Bluejay goalkeeper Brian Holt was issued a yellow card to set up Gibson’s penalty kick.
The physical match featured nine yellow cards, including a caution issued to Evansville’s Tom Irvin just 38 seconds into the match. The Aces were issued the first four yellows of the match, while Creighton was carded the final five times. CU was whistled for 16 fouls total, Evansville for 13.
Creighton was outshot 18-14 in the match, while the Jays took just one shot after regulation and none on goal.
Holt finished with five saves in the draw, including one in each overtime frame.
The Bluejays continue their three-game MVC road trip on Wednesday when they play at Bradley.
