The Husker defense kept its Blackshirts. For the first time this season, twelve players wore black jerseys in practice.
There was certainly a chance that coach Bo Pelini would have taken those famous practice jerseys away. He gave them out Friday, six weeks into the season and six weeks later than they've traditionally been distributed.
Nebraska suffered a 31-10 loss to Texas Tech Saturday, after which senior Ndamukong Suh told reporters that he didn't think the defensive unit's performance was Blackshirt-worthy.
But apparently, Pelini disagreed. The defense must have done enough to earn the right to wear black jerseys this week.
Twelve players had them on to begin today's practice. Sophomore Alfonzo Dennard, a starting cornerback, would have likely been the 13th, but he wore a green, no contact jersey.
Here's a list of the Blackshirts: Suh, Pierre Allen, Barry Turner, Jared Crick, Will Compton, Sean Fisher, Phillip Dillard, Dejon Gomes, Eric Hagg, Prince Amukamara, Matt O'Hanlon and Larry Asante.
