Pottery class offered for youngsters
The Bluffs Art Council will offer a pottery class from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday for students 7 to 14 years old.
Cost is $30, or $25 for council members.

Forum focuses on future work force
Nebraska’s budget crunch, the economic downturn and the state’s future work force needs will be discussed at an Oct. 29 forum called “Building Nebraska’s Future Workforce.”
The daylong forum will feature Neil Ridley, senior policy analyst with the Center for Law and Social Policy. He will address employment policy, work force development and postsecondary education issues from a national perspective. State Sen. Heath Mello will address strategic planning initiatives.
Representatives from Nebraska state government will discuss future work force needs and strategies.
The forum is sponsored by the Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest.

Show will feature 360 quilted items
Cottonwood Quilters will present the biennial “Threads Through Time” quilt show Friday and Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4200 N. 204th St.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. This year’s featured quilter will be Beverly Alexander of Onawa, Iowa. Her quilts have been displayed at the International Quilt Show in Houston, Japan and South Korea.
The show will have more than 360 quilted items, vendors, a silent auction, a quilt appraiser, food and demonstrations. A scissors sharpener also will be at the show. For more information, visit www.cottonwoodquilters.org.

See a documentary about the godmother of punk rock, “Patti Smith: Dream of Life,” Wednesday at McFoster’s Natural Kind Cafe, 38th and Harney Streets.
