    Jamrog says recruiting on track

    • Nebraska coach Bo Pelini answers questions after Thursday's practice:

LINCOLN — Jeff Jamrog said he believes Nebraska's offensive struggles in Big 12 play will not harm recruiting.

Jamrog, the school's assistant athletic director for football, said Thursday that the Huskers continue to receive good feedback from recruits after Saturday's 31-10 loss at home to Texas Tech.

“I think guys, on either side of the ball, are attracted to a school when they see opportunity,” he said. “I can give you example after example of guys who just want to play. I don't care what level of football it is.”

The Huskers rank 25th nationally in scoring offense at 32.3 points per game but posted a total of 25 points in their two losses. They rushed for a season-low 70 yards against the Red Raiders. Additionally, NU was shut out for the first three quarters of its 27-12 win over Missouri on Oct. 8.

At least four of Nebraska's 10 known pledges for the class of 2010 play are set to play offense in college, headlined by quarterback Tyler Gabbert of Ballwin, Mo., and projected prep All-America offensive lineman Andrew Rodriguez of Aurora, Neb. Highly rated receiver Curtis Carter of Stonewall, La., joined the group on Thursday.

Jamrog said he learned his guiding principles from former Nebraska coach Tom Osborne, who continues to aid the NU recruiting efforts as the school's athletic director.

“Success in recruiting, in my opinion,” Jamrog said, “is directly related to our coaches' ability to relate and communicate to these young men and give them the feel that Nebraska is the place for them to play.”

He made the comments in response to a World-Herald column this week that suggested the lack of an offensive identity at NU could damage the school in recruiting.

“I just feel we're missing the boat by talking about identity,” Jamrog said.

“I don't think it's going to hurt us or that we're going to have a tough time filling out this class.”
