Authorities this afternoon went to an animal shelter in Auburn, Neb., to recover 30 to 40 abandoned dogs, a spokeswoman for the Nebraska Humane Society said.
Humane Society officers, Nemaha County sheriff's deputies and state agriculture officers will help collect the animals, said Pam Wiese, the spokeswoman.
The person who operated the shelter left three weeks ago and abandoned the dogs, she said.
Two of the shelter operator's family members tried to care for the animals, but it was too much for them. They contacted authorities, Wiese said.
The dogs will be taken to Omaha, Wiese said.
