Class A: Lincoln Southeast ousts Northeast

LINCOLN — Zach Taylor rushed for 139 yards on 17 carries, including a 68-yard touchdown in the second quarter, to lead Lincoln Southeast to a 21-7 win over Lincoln Northeast on Friday at Seacrest Field in the first round of the Class A state playoffs.

Northeast had a chance to jump out to a lead in the middle of the first quarter, but Southeast linebacker Spencer Edwards scooped up a fumbled handoff and returned it a Class A-record 85 yards for the game's first score.

“We were very fortunate there,” Southeast coach John Larsen said. “They were on the verge of scoring and had all the momentum. We were not very crisp today, and I was very disappointed with how we played.”

The playoff win is Southeast's first in seven years.
